ROOF FUNDRAISER
The Saga of the Roof
In 1985 our M.J. Anuta Research Center
was built. That makes it’s roof over25 years old and was
slated for an new roof this year.
In 1995 when a
Conservation Assessment was made of the Heritage Museum
building and a five year plan laid out for care of the
property. At the end of that plan, Bill King the then
Director/Curator said “we should consider that the roof
will need to be replaced in the near future”.
Annually since then, as
the Budget was presented, it was noted that a new roof
was in the future but had shown no need for immediate
replacement. Money was collecting in the Foundation
Funds for such a need.
In the Fall of 2010,
Menominee experienced a strong wind storm with swirling
winds up to 60 miles a hour. Mike Kaufman, our Director,
found some 50+ shingles
fom the Heritage
Roof blown to the ground. The roof projects could no
longer be postponed. The insurance covers part f the
costs, but another $11,000 is need to roof the two
buildings and thus preserve their contents.
It has been determined that 110 squares
of shingles at the cost of $100 each will be needed for
the project.
